1% Behind Pawlenty and Santorum
DES MOINES, IOWA – In the new Zogby poll released late yesterday, California businessman tied former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, both scoring 1%. The 1,103 sample survey showed Karger ahead of former governors Johnson and Roemer of New Mexico and Louisiana respectively. He is just 1% behind former governor Pawlenty and former U S Senator Santorum among announced candidates plus Christie, Perry + Palin (see below).
This week Fox News released the criteria for its August 11, 2011 debate – an average of 1% in 5 national polls. CLICK HERE
“We’re almost there,” said Karger. “This is now the 3rd poll in just the past couple of months where I am averaging the magic 1%. For a first-time candidate, who has not raised millions of dollars, I am ecstatic about the results. Now we just need to score in 2 more polls and I will be standing on the stage in Ames, Iowa next month with the other candidates. As the only Independent Republican running, I look forward to getting away from the divisive issues and talking about the issues of concern to most Americans – jobs first, education reform and getting out of Afghanistan and Iraq now. I have been at this for 18 months and all that work is beginning to translate into support. We’re up from 0% just four weeks ago.”
Karger, a longtime political consultant, worked on both President Ronald Reagan’s campaigns in 1980 and 1984 as well as the campaigns of Presidents Ford and George H W Bush. He was the first to establish an exploratory committee one year ago, the first to hire staff in Iowa and New Hampshire, the first to run TV commercials in those two states and the first to file for president on March 23, 2011 at the Federal Election Commission in Washington, DC.

Long-shot presidential candidate Fred Karger figures he’s got a few things going for him as he vies with some heavy-hitting Republicans, including Mitt Romney and Michelle Bachmann, for his party’s nomination.
For one thing, the Laguna Beach resident is the only Californian running for the highest office in the land — if you don’t count Romney’s move last year to San Diego — and for another, he had the privilege of working for the last Californian-turned-president, Ronald Reagan… (more)

The presidential candidates are spending so much time in New Hampshire and Iowa these days that it sometimes seems as if they live there.
Some of the 2012 hopefuls, in fact, do live there — former Louisiana Gov. Buddy Roemer, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum and Fred Karger are among those who have taken up temporary residence in one of the early presidential states in an attempt to maximize their time with early-state voters… (more)
