The California Secretary of State released the list of generally recognized candidates for June 5’s presidential primary election, and one local name made the list.

Laguna Beach resident Fred Karger is one of six Republicans who will be on the ballot. Karger is running as the first openly-gay Republican candidate, and he hopes his moderate views will resonate with voters.

The Secretary of State’s office may add to the list until March 29, when it will be officially certified. So far, 24 candidates are listed including President Barack Obama for the Democratic Party, the six Republicans and various American Independent, Green and libertarian candidates.
